Free SEO & GEO Score Checker: Auditing Traditional SEO and AI Readiness in One Tool

The Challenge

Content teams and agencies had no free, accessible way to audit both traditional SEO signals and AI search readiness (GEO — Generative Engine Optimization) in a single tool. Existing commercial platforms charge monthly subscriptions and often do not cover the emerging GEO signals that matter for AI-powered search.

Strategy

GoContento designed two parallel scoring frameworks: a traditional SEO score (100 points across 7 categories) and a GEO score (100 points across 8 categories). Both use only publicly accessible signals from the website being analysed. The approach prioritises transparency — every point awarded corresponds to a specific, named check that a site owner can verify and act on.

Execution

The checker runs server-side with the same SSRF-protected fetch architecture used across GoContento's tool suite. It simultaneously fetches the homepage, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, and llms.txt. SEO checks cover HTTPS, HTTP status, canonical URLs, meta tags, heading structure, indexability directives, schema markup, internal links, and Open Graph metadata. GEO checks cover AI crawler directives, entity schema, FAQ schema, content structure depth, author transparency, external citations, llms.txt, and freshness signals. Results include separate SEO and GEO score rings, category breakdowns, priority issues panels, and contextual Contento AI Optimizer recommendations for WordPress sites.

The SEO & GEO Score Checker is available free at gocontento.io/tools/seo-geo-score-checker. It requires no account, runs in under 15 seconds, and covers 30+ deterministic checks. The tool checks for AI crawler access (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot), llms.txt presence, and entity clarity — signals that are increasingly relevant as AI answer engines become a significant source of web traffic.
